Panel session with Peter Jones, Ned Rava, and Ryan J. A. Murphy on #SDGs & #SystemChange (SUSTEX Conference, 23 April 2021)

The UN Joint SDG Fund was launched as the global, multi-sectoral vehicle for policy innovation and financing for acceleration of the progress on the SDGs and the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. Its core mandate is to invest in solutions that produce transformative results that catalyze change across systems, sectors, and industries.

The panel discussed the outcomes of Theories of Change associated with joint programmes (JPs) that provide the mechanism for transformative solutions implemented by governments and stakeholders within 35 programmes in 39 countries. An initial analysis of Theories of Change is accompanied by the analysis of systemic leverage across 11 SDGs covered by these programmes.

  • Ned Rava (Opening statement): Opening statement: “Only genuine systemic change can bring about the transformation required to reach the SDGs in next 10 years”
  • Peter Jones: “Theories of Change can be designed to much better represent how systems change unfolds in a complex world”
  • Ryan Murphy: “Systemic change requires systemic understanding: appreciating and using the SDGs’ complex dynamics to strategically unlock progress.”
